| BBA 2009 Elite Player Scheme. | ||||
| December 1, 2008 As an incentive and reward, those members who are selected to represent Victoria or Australia, will be eligible to receive financial assistance through the BBA Elite Player Scheme. In 2009, the Ballarat Badminton Association will provide a total of $1000 in grants. This pool of money will be divided amongst the successful applicants. Applications must be received by November 1st of each year, and will be awarded at the BBA AGM. For information about the 2009 Elite player scheme please click here. |

BBA, Badminton Victoria, VicHealth and the Center for Multicultural Youth are working together to run a Multicultural Come and Try Day at the Ballarat Badminton Stadium on Friday November 28th. The day is aimed at migrants and new arrivals to the Ballarat community. Participants will be provided with free court hire and coaching and a BBQ lunch. | Ballarat Badminton Association will once again be hosting the Under 17 Australasian Championships. Kicking off on April 10th (Good Friday) the 10 day event will attract teams from across Australia and New Zealand. Entry forms for the June Bevan Trophy teams events are now available. | Ballarat Badminton Association has announced it will be hosting a junior tournament on Sunday September 21st. The event will feature Under 13, 15, 17 & 21 agegroups and is sure to attract players aiming to gain extra match practice in the lead up to the Val Nesbitt Under 15 carnival scheduled for October 1-5th. | ||||

A great highlight of the event will be the return of Malaysia's World Number 1 Mens Doubles pair of Cheah Soon Kit and Ong Beng Teong, who led Malaysia to a win in the Thomas Cup. UB WestVic Shines at Under 19 Champs |

| UB WestVic Academy of Sport Badminton athletes arrived home from a very successful campaign at the CP Maddern Trophy and Australian Under 19 Championships held in Geraldton last week. Skye and Tara Pilven helped return the CP Maddern trophy to Victoria after several years in the hands of Northern New Zealand. The Victorian1 Team defeated Central New Zealand 15 – 1, with both Pilven’s contributing strongly to the Teams success. | ||||
The highlight of the week was the awarding of the Joy Twining Trophy to Nathan David. David won the prestigious trophy for exhibiting the highest standards of sportsmanship, personality, court demeanor, player ability, determination and appearance. Carroll, a UB WestVic Academy of Sport graduate, will be Ballarat’s 7th Badminton Olympian following on from Murray Hocking (1996) Peter Blackburn (1996, 2000) Kellie Lucas (2000) Stuart and Ashley Brehaut (2004) and will be joined in Beijing by Rhonda Cator, Ballarat Badminton Association Manager and triple Olympian (1992, 1996, 2000) as Team Section Manager. |

| UB WestVic athletes to represent Victoria in Geraldton. | ||||

Six of Ballarat’s junior Badminton players head off to the Australian Under 19 Championships this Thursday in an attempt to stop New Zealand’s dominance of the event over recent years. The UB WestVic Academy scholarship holders fly out to Geraldton as part of the Victorian contingent which will compete for the CP Maddern Trophy. Sisters Skye and Tara Pilven will represent Victoria 1, coached by Ballarat’s Olympian Ashley Brehaut, while Nathan David, Victor Brooker, Matthew Wilson and Danielle Gervasoni make up 40% of the Victoria 2 Team. Results from the 2 events will count for Australian Junior Team selection, for the Commonwealth Youth Games, to be held in India in October. |

| Hollioake Park challenge is an annual multisport competition open to Ballarat schools. The 2008 event involved badminton, table tennis, netball and basketball. Congratulations to Mitchell Gervasoni and Sam Romeril from Miners Rest Primary School who defeated 17 other teams to take out the boys badminton competition. Congratulations also to Zoe Nevett and Paige Wilson who successfully defended Ballarat Grammar's title in the girls badminton competition. | ||||
