Upcoming BBA Events
March 2, 2010

BBA has some big events coming up in the next few weeks. Between 10am and 2pm on Sunday March 14th BBA will be opening its doors for a Free Come & Try Day. This is a great opportunity to introduce your friends and family to the game of badminton. No experience is necessary. All equipment will be supplied free of charge.
Sunday March 28th is the Ballarat Open & Graded Tournament and on the 10th and 11th of April BBA will be hosting its annual Veterans Tournament.

Pilven Qualifies for Youth Olympics
March 2, 2010
UB WestVic Academy badminton athlete Tara Pilven has qualified for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore in August.
Pilven won the right to be Australia’s female singles representative by winning the Junior Women’s Singles at the Oceania Championships in Invercargill, New Zealand on Saturday. The championships included players from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, New Caledonia and Tahiti.

Australia Win Oceania Thomas & Uber Cup Preliminaries

BBA logo Junior Tournament Entry Lists & Draws Available Online

BBA's Under 11, 13, 15, 17 & 19 tournament will start with mixed doubles to be followed by singles and then doubles. Matches will be called at 8:50am. Although we can not guarantee the starting time for singles matches we would greatly appreciate if players not playing mixed would report to the stadium by 10:30am.

Under 11 girls doubles & Under 13 boys doubles will be played using the alternating doubles system. This means every player, plays each match with a different partner and opposition.

BBA Christmas / New Year Opening Hours
December 4th, 2009
The stadium will be closed from December 19th to January 10th for the Christmas break and from January 16th to 26th for the resurfacing of courts. To view the stadiums opening hours please click here.
Senior pennant competition will commence the week of February 1st and junior pennant competition on Thursday February 11th.

Once again BBA will be running junior badminton training camps during the January School Holidays. The Development Training Camp is suitable for beginners and young developing players. The Summer Training Camp is aimed at junior players with more playing experience. For more information on the camps please contact Rhonda at the stadium on 5339 4601.

Come & Try Days
October 9, 2009
In the next few weeks BBA will be hosting a series of come and try days for different Ballarat based community groups. These are a great way for the Association to promote it's facilities while giving groups an opportunity for fun and social sport.
The stadium will be open on Saturday November 7th & 14th for casual court hire. For more information please contact the stadium.

Groups wishing to use the stadium can have access to the stadium's equipment, courts and BBQ.
If you are part of a community, sporting, social or school group that would like to use the stadium's facilities please contact the stadium to discuss the possibilities.
BBA Trivia Night - Friday October 23rd.

BBA will be hosting a Trivia Night as the Associations main 2009 fundraiser on Friday October 23rd. Tickets are $15 per person for tables of up to 10 people and can be booked through the BBA office.
The top 3 winning teams will receive Rebel Sports vouchers. The cost is $15 per ticket and it is BYO supper. Drinks can be purchased at the bar. No BYO drinks sorry. Memorabilia will be auctioned off during the evening.

National Title for Ballarat's Natasha David

UB WestVic Academy badminton athlete Natasha David has won the 2009 Australian Under 15 Girls Doubles Title. David partnered Melbourne’s Gronya Somerville, her Victoria 2 team mate in the Championships, to defeat Victoria 1 pair and number 2 seeds Vinning Mak and Natasha Sharp in the final 13-21, 21-16, 21-11.

BBA will be running a junior tournament on Sunday September 12th. We are currently accepting entries in Under 11, 13, 15, 17 & 19. Please note players can only play in one age group.
We will attempt to make all age groups round robin to ensure players have a reasonable number of matches.

2009 Yonex Australian Open Grand Prix
July 20, 2009
Australia's largest badminton event of the year will be kicking off at 1pm on Wednesday July 22nd at MSAC. To see a full list of players and matches please click here. Ballarat Badminton Association will be hosting a Disability Come and Try Day on Sunday July 12th from 1-3pm. The day is designed as a fun and relaxed introduction to badminton. Senior Pennant Finals begin this week, Monday 15th June, with all Grand Finals beginning Monday 22nd June. In A Grade, Poo Shooters play Big Guys while Stingers play Limited Edition. B Grade sees Ladder leaders Latitude 88 play Congoes and Singh's v Racketeers. Razza's v Mayhem and The Aggots v Monday Nights make up the C Grade Finals.

Ballarat Player Wins Under 17 Australasian Championships Girls Singles Title
Monday April 20th

Ballarat UB WestVic Academy of Sport Athlete Tara Pilven has claimed the 2009 Australasian Under 17 Championship in Ballarat this weekend. It is the first win for a Ballarat player in many years. Pilven defeated Louisa Ma of  Victoria 21-
17, 16-21, 22-20.

Ballarat Ready for Australasian Influx
April 7th, 2009
The Ballarat Badminton Stadium is preparing for an influx of Australia and New Zealand's best junior Badminton players over the Easter holiday period.
Ballarat will once again be host to the June Bevan Trophy and the Australasian Under 17 Championships, an 8 day tournament to determine the regions best team and individual players.

Ballarat will be well represented in the event with 7 UB WestVic Academy of Sport athletes competing in the Championships.
Play for the June Bevan Trophy begins on Saturday April 11th at 8:30am and the Under 17 Australasian Championships begins on Wednesday April 15th at 10am.

Indian Community Come & Try Social Night.
April 7th, 2009
Over the last couple of months Ballarat Badminton Association has run a series of come and try days and nights
for various community groups. Each of these sessions has been organised as a relaxed and social introduction to badminton with participants rangeing in age from 18 months through to 82 years.

The latest event was a family social night for Ballarats Indian Community held on Monday April 6th. 45 members of Ballarat Indian Community enjoyed a hit of badminton before sharing a BBQ tea.
If you are involved in a cultural, school, kindergarden, or community group that would like to use the stadiums facilities for a social night or day please contact the stadium.

Each year BBA offers free clinics to Ballarat and district primary schools. This year over one thousand students will participate in the 2 week program. There is still sessions available. If you would like your school to be involved please contact the stadium.

The 2009 June Bevan Trophy teams event will be starting at 8:30am on Saturday April 11th. Due to the large number of team entries 3 rounds of play have been scheduled for Day 1. Ballarat Badminton Stadium will be the host venue for the 2009 Ballarat Antique Fair. The stadium will be closed from Wednesday March 4th at 10pm through til 4pm on Tuesday March 10th.

Premiers Active Families Challenge

Between March 8th and April 19th Victorian families are being challenged to exercise for 30 minutes each day.
As part of this program BBA will be hosting a come and try day on Sunday March 22nd. This is a great opportunity to invite your family, friends and work colleagues to come along and try badminton. You don't need to sign up for the challenge just come in and enjoy the opportunity for a free morning of badminton. The stadium will be open from 10am til 1pm. All equipment and a BBQ lunch will be provided free of charge.

The Draws Are Up.

Draws for this weekends junior tournament can now be viewed at http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/tournament.aspx?id=25955

We have tried to allow a reasonable amount of matches for all players. Under 11 boys and girls doubles will be played using a rotating partner draw (each player will play with and against every other player in a doubles match). The 2 players with the best results will receive a winner’s trophy and the next 2 players will receive runners up trophies.

Due to the large number of entries across 4 age groups we are looking forward to a busy day.

Play will start promptly at 9am with mixed doubles to be followed by singles and then doubles. We would appreciate if players not entered in mixed could report to match control by 10:30am.

Those players who are yet to pay entry fees will need to do so before the start of play.

 

UB WestVic perform well in National Under 13 Series
February, 2009
UB WestVic Athletes Stephen Weightman, Mitch Gervasoni, Alice Lorincz, Keely McGibbon and Tylah Bruhn recently competed in the Australian Under 13 Series.
Mitch Gervasoni dominated the Individual event by winning the Boys Doubles and reaching the semi finals in the Singles. In another win for the UB WestVic Academy Athletes, Stephen Weightman was awarded the Sportsmanship Trophy exhibiting the highest standards of sportsmanship, personality, court demeanor, player ability, determination and appearance.

  BBA 2009 Elite Player Scheme.
  December 1, 2008
As an incentive and reward, those members who are selected to represent Victoria or Australia, will be eligible to receive financial assistance through the BBA Elite Player Scheme. In 2009, the Ballarat Badminton Association will provide a total of $1000 in grants. This pool of money will be divided amongst the successful applicants. Applications must be received by November 1st of each year, and will be awarded at the BBA AGM. For information about the 2009 Elite player scheme please click here.
  BBA Multicultural Come and Try Day.
  November 13, 2008      
BBA, Badminton Victoria, VicHealth and the Center for Multicultural Youth are working together to run a Multicultural Come and Try Day at the Ballarat Badminton Stadium on Friday November 28th.
The day is aimed at migrants and new arrivals to the Ballarat community. Participants will be provided with free court hire and coaching and a BBQ lunch.

  Ballarat Badminton Association has announced it will be hosting a junior tournament on Sunday September 21st. The event will feature Under 13, 15, 17 & 21 agegroups and is sure to attract players aiming to gain extra match practice in the lead up to the Val Nesbitt Under 15 carnival scheduled for October 1-5th.
  Ballarat Goes Live to the World  
 

The 2008 KLRC Australian International will be the first tournament in Oceania to feature the internet based “Live Scoring”, making Ballarat Badminton the leader in badminton tournament technology for the region.
Live Scoring opens up Ballarat to the world, with anyone with internet access be able to view the score of any matches being played as they happen at the Ken Kay Badminton Stadium.

The 2008 KLRC Australian International and Australian Junior International has attracted over 170 players from Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia, Denmark, Japan, Philippines, England, Samoa, Chinese-Taipei, New Zealand, Scotland, Austria, Egypt, Mexico, Singapore as well as our very own Australian Olympic Team and

Australian National Squad Members. A great highlight of the event will be the return of Malaysia's World Number 1 Mens Doubles pair of Cheah Soon Kit and Ong Beng Teong, who led Malaysia to a win in the Thomas Cup. Cheah Soon Kit also has an Olympic Silver Medal in his very impressive trophy cabinet. 
The World's number 16 Mixed Doubles pair from Chinese Taipei will also be competing, as well as Mens Singles world number 18, Sairul Ayob and number 23 Lee Tsuen Seng from Malaysia.
